Daily Gratitude

The more I read and learn and live life, the more I am convinced that GRATITUDE is one of the highest emotions we can experience. What I mean by "highest" is the vibration that it gives us and sends out to others when we are in a state of gratitude. I have noticed that when I am in gratitude, the feeling is so overwhelmingly lovely, it is hard to explain. Gratitude is right up there with LOVE. I think those two emotions are the highest emotions on the emotions scale…with these emotions come JOY, APPRECIATION, EMPOWERMENT, and FREEDOM! Who doesn't want to feel those emotions!?!? It is so easy to complain, to want more, and to be envious of others. But, with gratitude, what you have is enough! I love this quote by Melody Beattie: When you begin to be grateful for everything in your … [Read more...]

Beauty is Only Skin Deep

When I was in high school and college, I worked in a grocery store as a checker. I met a lot of people during those 8 years and it allowed me a deep schooling on people. I saw all walks of life, from my "regular" customers, to the homeless and poor who came in with dirty change and recycled can money. I got to know people who were on welfare, I met people who drove nice cars, and I got to flirt with the cute firemen. I talked with old people, young people, pregnant ladies, step-parents, single parents, high school drop outs, con artists...you name it. It was a wonderful time of life, filled with a lot of growth and contemplation. I learned that if you look into the eyes of people, you can read their story. I saw a lot of worry and hurt, I saw insecurities, walls put up, anger, … [Read more...]

Fully Present

I think a lot of people yearn to be fully present. They want to live in the moment and breath in life as it is happening. Some people believe this is one of the keys to living in peace, to being truly joyful, to appreciating everything, to being grateful! In our fast paced lives, I don't think too many people even know how to be present. This is a very hard thing to do, because, in this busy life we live, we are constantly planning for whatever is ahead of us, worrying about the future, regretting the past, and planning accordingly. We are making appointments, checking our schedules, looking at our watches, running late, worrying about this and that, and trying to live up to unrealistic standards. To be fully present means that you are living in the moment. You are experiencing … [Read more...]

True Love

True Love

LOVE is the most powerful emotion of all. It's at the very top of the Emotional Guidance Scale, and rightly so. We all strive to LOVE and receive LOVE. LOVE protects, it heals, it nurtures, it teaches, it endures, it brings people together, it sets us free, it encourages, it lifts us up, it comforts. "LOVE" is found in the Bible (NIV) 551 times…it must be important and powerful! We are instructed over and over to LOVE one another, to LOVE ourselves, to LOVE God. It seems that if you are ethical, honest, moral, and LOVING…you will get that right back in return. Proverbs 21:21 – Whoever pursues righteousness and LOVE finds life, prosperity, and honor. This past week, unfortunately, we had a terrible family emergency. Without going into any detail, my … [Read more...]

Recognition…Make Their Day!

Great Job

When I was in high school and college, I worked at a grocery store in southern California.  I remember for the first few months, before I became a checker, I was a box girl.  Part of my duties was to go out into the parking lot for an hour at a time (and this was in the heat of the summer…it was hotter than Heck!) and collect the  grocery carts that people left all over the parking lot.  People would leave them far and wide, and I remember sweating and running and hustling.  I was really doing a great job in part because I didn’t want to endure this duty all summer long.  I thought if I worked by butt off and memorized the produce codes that I would soon get promoted to a checker (that meant no more cart gathering)…which I did in record … [Read more...]

The Power of Appreciation

thank you

Why is it so easy to have a "lacking" mindset? Why must we continue the dangerous act of comparing ourselves to others? Are we not perfect in His sight? Monitor your thoughts throughout the day...lack is all too common in our thoughts! It all started when we were babies...with growth charts, doctor's statistics, "When did your baby start to walk/talk/read, etc?"  We have grown up in a very competitive society.  Sports, spelling bees, "Student of the Week", being picked first or last for dodge ball, "Why does Sally's Mom let her go to the movies and I don't get to go?", and the list runs right on into adulthood. This is natural for humans to do, and something that has been going on for generations, so it's not going to stop here. … [Read more...]

Stay Healthy This Holiday Season!

The Holidays and "Flu Season" are upon us, and I don't know about you...but I want to stay healthy again this season!  For several years my family and I have been able to dodge the flu as well as major colds (knock on wood!).  I will share with you my thoughts on the subject, as well as what we do in my home...and maybe it will help you to stay healthy this season as well! There are seven areas that need to be given attention and effort.  Some are self explanitory, but I will share with you my theories: 1) Hygiene- During the flu season, we are indoors more often as the weather gets colder.  We have more social gatherings with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve, and all the fun and parties that go along with the holidays.  With more sneezing, coughing, and hand … [Read more...]

What I learned from a Toyota FJ Cruiser

Toyota FJ Cruiser

For the past several weeks, it seems that every time I turned around I saw a Toyota FJ Cruiser.  I was not looking for these cars, but when I would drive to and fro I would always see them.  They would be parked where I was parking, driving with me in the flow of traffic, driving against traffic...I was seeing them everywhere!  I began to wonder why...what message was I to get from this car? Was God trying to tell me something? I let my subconscious stew on it, I prayed about it, all the while I kept seeing this car in my daily travels.  Finally, my little voice, my intuition, my God told me to look up the slogans of Toyota.  I did just that, and now I am reminded of these great messages several times a day when I see these FJ Cruisers.  This is what I now think of every time I see this … [Read more...]

A Gratitude Activity

Love Mug

A healthy, grateful attitude comes naturally to some and is a struggle for others.  I have an activity that my paternal grandma (my "Bama") practiced while she was still with us.  It is a simple, ongoing activity, but it is one that will keep your attitude focused on all the blessings in your life! It is so healthy to think of all the great things in our lives.  When we focus on the good instead of the not-so-good, we get more of the good!  We attract what we think about the most, so let's focus more on what we love and want! Here's the activity:  Make a list of 100 things you absolutely LOVE!  Use ALL of your emotions and senses and feelings to do this exercise.  Your list will be unique to YOU!   It can be as simple as you loving to use a sharpened pencil with a really great eraser, … [Read more...]

Jumping For Joy is Good Exercise!

Jumping For Joy

When was the last time you felt so much joy in your heart that you couldn't contain yourself?  Can you remember the circumstances?  Did you squeal and laugh and jump up and down???  Did you dance around the house and sing at the top of your lungs?  Did you raise your hands up to the sky and yell praises of gratitude?  Did you cry warm tears of  joy? Did you hug the closest person to you, and did you close your eyes as tight as they could be closed?  Did your heart start beating faster?  Did you hold your breathe and wave your hands in front of your face?  Could you feel your adrenaline release into your system?  Could you feel your heart open and burst with love and genuine happiness? Hopefully this memory is not in the too distant past!  It is so healthy for you to Jump For Joy!  It … [Read more...]
