Lincoln Wisdom

For two weeks now, I have been bombarded by the word Lincoln“…EVERWHERE I looked, I saw this word; on cars, emblems, commercials, books, and magazines. Lincoln is the last name of a character in the Mercy Watson book series my youngest daughter is reading to me. The face of Abraham Lincoln was everywhere alsopennies, five-dollar bills, on TV, and on the internet. I even saw a license plate that read: A8RAHAM. I kept seeing and reading quotes said by our 16th President as well. As you may know, when I get struck by things over and over again, I know that means I need to delve into that topic for some reason. Usually there is a message for me or for YOU in that nudging!

So, my research began on the word Lincoln. I found some really great ideas, and some remarkable words to live by.

I first went to The Lincoln Motor Company web site. I clicked on each featured car, and here is how they were described:

Politely Progressive
I just LOVE this! Progressive is a great way to liveforward motion! And when we are moving forward, learning and growing, its best to be polite about it.

Exquisitely Crafted to Raise Eyebrows
I think we are all exquisitely crafted. Some of us do not believe thatbut it is a truth. If we all had the attitude and the confidence that we were crafted that way, I bet more people would raise their eyebrows at us. Confidence is SEXY!

Uncommon Sense
Common sense is awesome and gets us places, but Uncommon sense seems more FUN! Sometimes we need to let loose and GO FOR IT!

Inspired
I think we all do our best work when we are truly inspired! Are you inspired, or do you just drag your feet through life? Have YOU inspired someone lately! Get inspired and do something you LOVE!

Original
We are all original and uniquetap into your God-given gifts and use them. Shine like the bright star that you are. You are a one and only original!

The Luxury of Versatility
Being versatile is so freeingand when you loosen your grip you are free to do things you never dreamed could beand doing them in style and in luxury is twice as delicious!

Right there, I was fascinated with the wealth of knowledge I had stumbled upon. But, I still had Mr. Abraham Lincoln in the back of my mind. So, next I looked into his life. I was hoping that he and I would have some things in common, that would somehow shed some light as to why he kept showing up everywhere, but we really didnt. He did have four sons and I do have four daughters. He was clinically depressed, and I am not. So, I went to some of the quotes that kept crossing my path, and they are really greatHere are five of them that I think you will glean some wisdom from and love:

Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.This is so true. Attitude is everything, and YOU decide how you will react toward life every daychoose to be HAPPY!

In the end, its not the years in your life that count. Its the life in your years.Make every day countwe dont know when our time on this plane will be over!

Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends with them? This one speaks so deeply to me, how powerful! Instead of Destroying your enemy by being mean and hostile and taking revenge, you can Destroy an enemy by befriending them. WOW!

Whatever you are, be a good one.
Yes, be the BEST you can be, each and every day!

Everybody likes a compliment.
I have never met anyone who does not like to be told they are good or doing well or are awesome. Some people may act like they dont like a compliment, but deep down everyone does. I always say, Hand out compliments freely; it blesses you and the recipient!

WOWwhat a great bunch of eye-opening wisdom hereall because I was aware of the nudges I was receiving and acted upon them.
This is a wonderful thing to be aware of
it is part of our intuitionwhich many people ignore.
When you feel something, or notice something over and over again, be open to the message or lesson that is coming your way.

Take Action: This week and moving forward, lets put these wonderful pieces of inspiration to use in our lives. Lets take Lincolns Wisdom and Good Abes advice and be a better person because of this new-found knowledge. Lets also tune into our intuition and not dismiss it. Lets embrace it and learn and grow from it.

In 1831, Abraham Lincoln failed in business.

In 1832, Abraham Lincoln was defeated for state legislator.

In 1833, Abraham Lincoln tried a new business, and failed.

In 1835, Abraham Lincoln’s fiancée died.

In 1836, Abraham Lincoln had a nervous breakdown.

In 1843, Abraham Lincoln ran for congress and was defeated.

In 1848, Lincoln ran again, and was defeated. Again.

In 1855, Lincoln ran for the Senate, and lost.

In 1856, Lincoln ran for Vice President, and lost.

In 1859, Lincoln ran again for the Senate. He was defeated.

Then, in 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States.

What matters most is not how many times you fail, but that you never stop trying.
