Live Longer by Smiling More

SmileThe most attractive thing you can wear is a smile!  Not a sarcastic, meek, or half-opened-mouth smile…but a true-feel-the-happiness-smile!  Much like the benefits of laughter, smiling is good for you in many ways:

Smiling makes us attractive – Have you ever seen a really pretty girl who has a frown on her face? She doesn’t look attractive does she?  On the contrary, have you ever seen a not-so-attractive person who wears a beautiful smile?   You are more apt to approach this person, aren’t you?  We are drawn to people who smile.  We want the happiness that they have. Frowns, scowls and grimaces push us away. Are you drawing people to you or are you repelling them away?

Smiling changes our mood – “Turn that frown upside down”…remember that? When you are feeling blue, try it and see if your mood lifts you out of the darkness!

Smiling is contagious – When someone is smiling they lighten up the room, change the moods of others, and make things happier.  A smiling person brings with them happiness. It’s hard to not smile when someone smiles at you!  See if you can spread it around!

Smiling relieves stress – Stress really shows up in our faces.  I bet you can tell when someone you know is stressed without even talking with them.  Smiling helps prevent us from looking tired, worm down, and overwhelmed.  When you feel stressed, take the time to stop, breathe, and put a smile on your face.  The stress will be reduced and you will be better able to take action.

Smiling boosts your immune system – Smiling, like laughter, boosts the immune system.  Prevent colds and the flu by smiling!

Smiling releases endorphines, natural pain killers, and serotonin – Studies have shown this to be true.  Together these three make us feel good.  Smiling is a natural drug!

Smiling lifts the face and makes you look younger – This is the cheapest face lift ever! The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger!

Smiling makes you seem successful – Smiling people appear more confident, are more likely to be promoted, and are more likely to be approached.  Put a smile on at meetings and appointments and people will react to you in a very positive way!

Smiling helps you stay positiveIt’s hard to think of negative things while you have a smile on your face.  When we smile our body is sending out a message that “Life is Good” to our self and others.  Stay away from depression, stress, and worry by smiling!

Happy people live longer.  Happy people smile.  A lot.

Be conscious of your facial expressions.  Try smiling more often and for more reasons.

Spread the joy.  We all have so much to smile about!
