Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Do you have a mentor in your life?  Someone who is always taking the high road, setting a good example, teaching through their actions?  Are you that person to someone else?  We can learn so much from these types of people.  It is so important to teach through action,  especially if you have children, or you are a mentor to another person.  Each of us have at least one person who looks up to us, who watches how we act and how we treat others, and who tries to emulate us.

hypocrisyI have known so many people who “talk the talk” but don’t “walk the walk”.  It is a let down, a frustration, and a farce.  In the end all respect is lost.  If your words and actions don’t match up, you need to ask yourself why they don’t.  Are you trying to be someone or something you are not?  Are you trying to portray an image that you want others to believe you are?  You need to be true to yourself, and  act on that.

If you tell your kids, your friends, or anyone for that matter not to use bad language, and then you talk like a sailor…what are you teaching them?  Will they believe in you and trust you?  Will they respect you?  No.  What if  you are seen at church and then you act and talk  like a racist? What if you tell your kids to have discretion and to not drink and you are an alcoholic?

The word hypocrite comes to mind.

As you go through your day, listen to the words you speak, be aware of the things you do…are your actions lining up with your words in a positive and healthy way.  Are the people who look up to you benefiting from how you behave, how you treat other people?  Take a mental inventory of your words and actions!  Because…

actions  DO speak louder than words!
