Keep Everything in Perspective

Perspective

When I was in seventh grade, I received the greatest Christmas gift of all: My dad bought me and my three siblings each a new set of luggage. I loved my new three piece set from the moment I saw it…it was sturdy, red, and it was all mine! I loved it even more as I unzipped each section and pocket and discovered several fun gifts neatly wrapped and stuffed inside. Christmas kept giving, as I opened up the last pocket; inside were airline tickets to Mexico! We were taking a family vacation to Mazatlan, Mexico!!! Boy was I excited! After our fabulous time in Mexico, our Christmas break was coming to an end, and we returned home to snowy Colorado. When we were taking our luggage out of the trunk of our car, I noticed something quite disturbing: My brand new large carry-on piece had "Black … [Read more...]

A Decision I Made

decision

You may find this hard to believe, but I have not thrown up (vomited) in over 26 years! All sorts of flues and colds and sicknesses have traveled throughout my home, around my friends, and family…but I have managed to steer clear of bowing to the Ivory Throne. Even when I have partaken in too much to drink, I stop short of throwing up. I have four daughters, and I was never nauseated, nor did I throw up at any time during those pregnancies. Before I got pregnant, I knew I would feel awesome and not have morning sickness. It was never a question or option. I'm sure you are wondering how this can be. Your inner cynic is shaking its head in pure disbelief. I assure you that I am telling you the honest truth! You see, I made a decision at the tender age of 17: I do not like to throw up, so … [Read more...]

What is Your Money Vibe?

Money Vibe

What is your money vibe? Do you even know what a "money vibe" is? Vibe is short for vibration and "money vibe" can be summed up by noticing how you feel and act and talk about money. There are two extremes when it comes to your money vibe, and there are people scattered all in between these two extremes. I am not talking about being in debt versus being a millionaire. I am simply talking about your attitude towards money. Here are the two extremes. Where do you fit in? One extreme is this: There is a feeling of a sense of lack. If you believe this way about money, then you are always fretting about money. You talk about things being too expensive. You consciously or unconsciously fear that there will always be a shortage and you will never get ahead or have enough. You attract things … [Read more...]

Love is a Decision

love is a decision

About a year ago, my husband told me he wanted to get a new puppy. It had almost been a year since our sweet Australian Shepherd, Chicky, had passed on. He was ready. I was not. Although I missed Chicky, I was really enjoying the house not being hairy and not having to smell her and her food, and not dealing with the dog poop. I was also getting quite use to the freedom of coming and going and travelling without having to make plans for Chicky. My thinking was this: We had always had a dog but that doesn't mean that we always have to have a dog, does it? Why can't we just enjoy this new season of our dog-less lives? Well, when you are in a relationship, sometimes you need to compromise to keep the peace. This was a time when I had to put my husband's needs before my own. I am a little … [Read more...]

A Lesson in Everything

A lesson in everything

This week, as I was driving home from an appointment, I got a hankering for a salad and a slice of vegetable pizza. I pulled into this small restaurant and walked in to a fairly empty dining area. I sat in a booth totally away from the only other couple in the place. I loved that it wasn't lunch hour, as I wanted to do a little reading while enjoying the quiet. In walks an older couple, who proceeds to sit right behind me. Now, this may sound a little (or a lot) judgmental…but with twenty other booths and tables empty, why in the world did they need to sit in the one right behind me? Those were the thoughts and feelings swirling around in my mind and through my body. Yes, I was aware that my muscles were tensing up, my breathing became non-existent, and I was truly irritated. Did they … [Read more...]

Reignite Your Imagination

imagination

As I listen to my two youngest daughters playing with each other, it makes me chuckle. Their pretend play is enchanting. They are fairies, witches, babies, mommies, princesses, and princes. Their land of make-believe comes alive with every word and prop. Do you remember using your imagination like that when you were a young child? I sure do. It was magical and freeing and exciting! What happens to our ability to "make-believe" as we get older? Yes, we mature and take on more and more responsibilities…but should that diffuse our wild imaginations? Unfortunately growing into an adult does just that. But I don't think our imagination needs to go dormant. Using your imagination is a very empowering tool. Picasso said, "Everything you can imagine is real." What does that mean exactly? … [Read more...]
