Right on Time

right on time

When my youngest daughter Quinn was just a toddler, she would quite often tell me something that really helped me to be present. At times, we would be rushing to get into the car and off to "somewhere" and I would say out of habit, "Hurry girls or we will be late!" My insightful, joyful, and naturally positive Quinn would always reply, "Mom, we're gonna be right on time!" The way she said this was so emphatic, as if she were intending it to be so. And, truth be told, we were always "right on time". "Right on time" may not be by a clock's standard, but we were always arriving at the perfect time…just when someone was pulling out of the front parking space. We would arrive at the very same time as the person we were meeting. We would arrive just as the rain stopped. The list goes on and … [Read more...]

All’s Well That Ends Well

A few weeks ago my husband and I went on an eight day vacation to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary and his 50th birthday. I made all the reservations at an awesome resort in Hautulco, Mexico five months prior to our trip. I reserved the best room; with a king sized bed, a private swim out pool, and a membership to the Preferred Club...where you get extra special perks. Upon arrival and check in we were told that the hotel overbooked and that our reserved room would not be available until the following day. In turn, we would have to sleep in a less appealing room with two double beds, in a less desirable location, with no private swim out pool. The bed and room situation was bad in and of itself, but the notion of unpacking and repacking and moving rooms was such a hassle and … [Read more...]

Deep Tissue Massage

No Pain

As we all know, there are so many wonderful benefits to getting regular massages. Oprah agrees! It relieves stress, relaxes tired and sore muscles, eliminates toxins, improves joint flexibility, and the list goes on.  But...I am not going to talk about the physical and psychological benefits of massage.  I am, however,  going to tell you about an experience I had on the massage table recently that was an "ah-ha" moment for me. Lying on the massage table, receiving the expert physical touch from my gal, Kathlene, I find myself drifting in and out of a light sleep.  I am so relaxed, my mind is wondering and pondering in a hazy state of euphoria.  Then it happens!   She hits a spot...a ball of tension...a knot near my left shoulder blade.  OUCH!!!   She doesn't let that one be.  Each … [Read more...]

Change is the Only Constant…”Go With the Flow!”

There is so much change and unpredictability in life, change is the only constant!  If we get upset and frazzled at every little thing that doesn't go as planned, we will become a tense ball of stress.  We need to breathe, let go, and "go with the flow".  When we hold on tight and try to control all circumstances and outcomes, we are not living life.  Part of living life is taking what comes our way and finding the good in it, making an adventure out of it, moving to the groove, learning from it all! Planning is good, don't get me wrong...but as we  all know,  not everything goes as planned.  So, in light of this, we need to go easy on ourselves, on others, and on circumstances.  If something goes wrong and we get angry and stressed about it, we affect so many people (including … [Read more...]

“Have a wonderful day!”

At some time or another, we all are hit with situations that can leave us feeling mad, sad, guilty, taken advantage of, or frustrated. Sometimes it is a direct result from something you have or have not done, and sometimes it is thrust upon you and totally out of  your control. When these circumstances present themselves to you, you have a simple choice to make: Do you want to have a nasty, negative attitude or a healthy, positive outlook?   I will illustrate this in a short story: I was speeding (my choice and my fault) and I was pulled over and a ticket was written out to me. When the police officer handed me my ticket, he said, "Drive safely, be careful, and have a wonderful day!" My initial reaction was to say something not-so-nice and I could feel my blood pressure … [Read more...]

How to Stay Calm in the Midst of a Storm

We all have storms in our lives. Big ones and not so big ones.  It's how you handle these squalls that dictate how long they will stay with you.  When you find yourself having a bad day, and circumstances are just not going your way, and you just can't get anything right...Stop, take a deep breath, and ask yourself, "Will this matter in a year from now?" Most likely the answer will be an astounding, "NO!". Will it really matter that you are 5 minutes late to pick up your child from piano lessons? NO!  Will it really matter that you spilled chocolate sauce on your new dress?  NO!  Will it really matter that the iPhone you pre-ordered will get to you 12 days later than was promised?  NO! If you realize this simple fact, that most things won't matter in a year from now, then you will … [Read more...]
