Picking Leads to Festering

picking

I know this will sound disgusting to you, but it is a true fact: When you have a scrape or a sore or an open wound of some sort, it will heal a lot faster if you do not pick at it. If you do pick at it, it will fester. Picking leads to festering! Fester Noun: A sore that has become inflamed and formed pus Verb: Ripen and generate pus. I know it is sometimes hard to leave those sores and scabs alone. We think, "If I just pick it off then my skin will get back to normal much more quickly." Well, in fact, the opposite is true. When we pick, it will not only fester, it will take much longer to heal. If we do not take care of it and make sure it is clean, we can also develop an infection, which leads to much more pain and suffering. Our wound will sometimes bleed and the healing process will … [Read more...]

A Mental Experiment

mental

We put such limits on ourselves. We have these beliefs or preconceived notions that tend to control and stifle us in certain situations. I have a need to see. I do not like it when it is pitch black. I do not like being in a room with no windows. I do not like elevators. This can feel like a panic attack and sometimes manifests in the feeling of claustrophobia. This feeling is intensified when coupled with motion sickness. I believe we all feel certain things and have anxieties as a result of childhood or past experiences. We have a stamp on our subconscious that is there until we address it. My fear of not being able to see, I believe, is a result of two tragic things that occurred in my childhood: 1) My big brother (God I love him) thought it would be funny to zip me up in a … [Read more...]

Three Small Words

Three Small Words

The other day I found myself in a situation where I had inconvenienced a friend. It was not intentional, but nonetheless, I made her late to a family event. I apologized when I saw her. But after the fact, this situation kept resting on my shoulders. I felt really awful, as I had no idea I was the cause of her being held up. Two days later, I was still thinking about this. I sent her a text telling her how sorry I was and I asked her to forgive me. She immediately responded that she had forgiven me and all was well between us. She continued to tell me how thankful she was of my three words, "I am sorry". She said those words are not in many people's vocabulary these days, so my words really meant a lot to her. Her words to me really weighed heavy on my heart, as she was right: people do … [Read more...]

Overcoming Stereotypes and Stigmas

overcoming

I was chatting over a Starbucks with a friend the other morning and we got to talking about how people can look at the same situation and have a different opinion about it. We delved specifically into "stereotypes" and "stigmas". Those can be such ugly words, with deep meaning and lots of emotions and opinions tied to them. Obviously when someone says a word, you will conjure up all your personal experiences you have had, and they all culminate into your opinion. Let's take the word and profession of Real Estate Agent. What immediately comes to your mind? Well, if you have had nothing but awesome experiences with Real Estate Agents, and all your transactions have run smoothly, then you may have a very positive opinion about people in that profession. If you have never bought a home or … [Read more...]
